ISI, October 2024
Halcyon is inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), the body appointed by the Department for Education to inspect association independent schools in England. In October 2024, ISI conducted a routine inspection of Halcyon and found that the school meets all of the statutory Independent School Standards — across leadership and governance, quality of education, and pupils' physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Inspectors recognised the strength of teaching at Halcyon, noting that teachers use secure subject knowledge to deliver ambitious content in line with the IB's philosophy of students building knowledge through research. They highlighted the school's detailed, well-considered curriculum, enriched by cultural visits across central London, and found that our safeguarding arrangements effectively promote students' wellbeing, with help given quickly when students need it.
Pupils come from culturally rich and nationally diverse backgrounds. Many have been previously educated overseas. Leaders have established an ethos of inclusivity in which pupils with different backgrounds, faiths and gender preference feel comfortable and valued. As a result, pupils are self-confident and positive about difference.

Ofsted: Outstanding, twice over
Before joining the Independent Schools Association, Halcyon was inspected directly by Ofsted. In our two most recent Ofsted inspections, March 2020, and April 2017. Halcyon was rated Outstanding, the highest judgement available.
In 2020, inspectors observed that teachers at Halcyon are passionate about their subjects, with strong subject knowledge running through a curriculum that connects concepts across disciplines. They described students whose quality of work is excellent respectful, self-confident, independent and quietly determined.
The Good Schools Guide
The Good Schools Guide is the UK's most trusted independent guide to schools. Schools cannot pay to be included; reviews are researched through school visits and conversations with students, parents and staff, and written entirely independently.

NEASC: a pioneer of the ACE Learning protocol
Halcyon is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), one of the world's most respected school accreditation bodies, founded in 1885 and trusted by leading international schools across more than 80 countries.
What sets Halcyon's accreditation apart is how we earned it. Halcyon was one of the first schools in the world to be accredited through NEASC's ACE Learning protocol — a deliberately demanding model that moved beyond the traditional checklist approach to school evaluation. Rather than asking whether a school's paperwork is in order, ACE Learning asks a harder question: what impact is this school actually having on its learners?
The ACE protocol evaluates a school as a living learning ecosystem, examining the alignment between what a school says it values and what students actually experience, day to day. It is a growth model — focused on transformation, not box-ticking — and it requires sustained self-study, external peer review by experienced international educators, and evidence of genuine learning impact.
For prospective families, NEASC accreditation offers two practical assurances. First, that Halcyon's educational quality has been examined against a rigorous international standard, independent of the UK inspection framework — a second, separate lens on the school. Second, that a Halcyon education is internationally portable: NEASC accreditation is recognised by universities and schools worldwide, and qualifying Halcyon students receive an accredited US high school diploma alongside their IB qualifications — valuable for families whose futures may span more than one country.
