Q: Why does Halcyon offer bursaries?

Halcyon was founded in 2013 as a charity, not a for-profit business. Our founders believed an exceptional education shouldn't be limited to families who can afford it, and our bursary programme carries that belief forward.

Yes. Halcyon's means-tested bursaries can cover up to the full cost of tuition for eligible, academically high-achieving students.

Eligibility is based on academic ability and financial need, assessed through a means-tested application process.

We believe in broadening access to exceptional education.

In 2013, four parents set out to build something better: a school in the heart of London where every resource would go back into students' education, not to shareholders. They founded Halcyon as a charity, and that founding choice still shapes everything we do today.

We believe an exceptional education should be shaped by a child's ability and character, not by what their family can afford. Through our means-tested bursary programme, we provide financial support, up to and including 100% of tuition fees, to academically high-achieving students who would not otherwise be able to join Halcyon. It's a direct extension of the belief our founders started with.

Every year, we hear from families who assumed a school like ours simply wasn't within reach. Often, it is. If your child has the ability, the curiosity and the drive to thrive in an IB education, we want to hear from you, whatever your financial circumstances.

We're a small, close-knit IB World School, and we're building a student community that reflects a genuinely broad range of backgrounds and life experience. That diversity isn't a nice-to-have alongside our academic mission, it's part of the same founding purpose.

Our Bursary

Halcyon wishes to extend its educational offering to deserving, academically high-attaining students who might not otherwise be able to attend.

As such, we offer generous means-tested bursaries for school fees. We currently have 8% of our student population on fee assistance and aim to increase this to 10%.

Bridge Scholar Bursary

Following the Department for Education's October 2025 decision to end funding for the International Baccalaureate Diploma in state schools, Halcyon introduced the Bridge Scholar Bursary, helping impacted students continue their IB education.

Financial Hardship

We recognise that sometimes financial circumstances change.

Parents with children currently in the School who experience a sudden change in circumstances may apply for tuition support, explaining their situation and therefore completing the bursary application process as outlined below.

Admissions Bursary Eligibility and Application Process

Scope

Eligibility

Admissions Bursaries serve new entrants to the school, where a place has been offered and parents are unable to fully fund the school fees themselves.

Each student to whom support is offered must, in the opinion of the Admissions Director and School Director:

be likely to make significant academic progress following admission;
possess the potential to take full advantage of Halcyon’s approach to education;
benefit from participation in the wider, extracurricular activities on offer at the School.

In normal circumstances, each applicant for financial support must, at the very minimum, meet the our standard academic requirements.

Application Process

Parents should first complete the application process for admission to the school. The Admissions Director will notify Parents of students who are successful in the application process.
Parents are then required to complete the Bursary Form, which includes a 'means questionnaire', assessed by Bursary Administration Limited (a third-party organisation) that asks parents to provide any supplementary information that is requested.
The Bursary Form must be submitted to Bursary Administration Limited no later than 15 January for the following academic year.
