COBIS Poetry Competition winner.
Last week we received news that Grade 9 student, Annabel, has won the COBIS Poetry Competition. Her poem – ‘Eyes kissed by a gentler sun’ – is a poignant message of unity and hope.
The judges say: "A moment of recognition and acceptance simply and beautifully told with clear, strong and relatable images. Touching on race and the experience of being othered but also of acceptance and how a simple moment can help one feel settled."
After receiving 296 entries from 149 schools around the world, the judges credited the quality of entries as exceptionally high.
Annabel, who regularly writes and shares poetry at Halcyon, says: “I’ve been doing poetry since I was ten. I regularly write based on the prompts of everyday life. I wanted this poem to be in a moment of understanding and recognising people.”
Congratulations Annabel on this remarkable achievement.
