We have received our final report for the Collaborative Learning Protocol (CLP), the visit that the IB and NEASC made to our school back in late March. Thank you to everyone who participated in such a rich exploration of learning at Halcyon.
This report shares feedback on our community reflection and highlights areas of strength, as well as places where we can continue to grow. I am pleased to share with you some of the wonderful things that the visiting team said about our school.

The school’s mission is well aligned with the values of the IB framework, with a strong focus on innovation, community, and academic and social-emotional development. The philosophy of continuous learning, rooted in both academic and personal growth, mirrors the IB mission’s emphasis on developing students who are active, compassionate, and lifelong learners.
The commitment to innovation within the school is especially notable. Teachers are encouraged and supported to innovate, mirroring three fundamental features of the school’s core values—innovation, collaboration, and community. This ensures that the school not only keeps pace with educational trends but actively shapes them.
By integrating concepts such as AI, inquiry-based learning, and service/action- based learning into the curriculum, the school is fostering an environment where students are equipped to think critically, adapt to new challenges, and apply their knowledge meaningfully.
This holistic approach to education—spanning academic, emotional, and social development—ensures that the school’s mission resonates with the values of the IB and demonstrates how an institution can integrate innovation, inclusion, and a sense of belonging within a framework that empowers both students and staff to grow, collaborate, and succeed.
The school has a strong focus on preparing students to meet the local and global challenges of the 21st century. The school strongly subscribes to the philosophy of life-long learning and approaches to learning skills in order to provide students with the motivation, commitment and tools required to deal with the many challenges in this century. Students are supported to become responsible for their own development, become intellectually curious and independent young people.
Halcyon has a strong foundation in fostering an inclusive and supportive culture, which is evident in both its policies and day-to-day practices. The school’s philosophy of inclusion ensures that students feel seen and accepted for who they are, allowing them to grow and learn with confidence. This is particularly valuable in an international setting, where students of diverse backgrounds, including British students, feel comfortable and not overwhelmed.
Halcyon has clearly articulated a vision for its future which includes fostering a more participatory and autonomous student body through targeted initiatives in citizenship, digital literacy, cultural competence, and service learning.
The intentionality of the leadership and community to engage with and support these many actions in alignment with the Learning Principles shows strong Commitment to achieving transformation in learning. The Cognitive Coaching Programme stands out as a remarkable example of Commitment to professional development
The Governing Board's Commitment to the school’s Mission and Vision is fundamental to ensuring the institution’s long-term success in the transformation and growth of learning and alignment with its Core Values.
The school’s ongoing focus on recruiting qualified, passionate educators and providing them with growth opportunities ensure both academic excellence and a thriving, collaborative school culture for staff and students alike.
