Halcyon MUN 2026

Halcyon MUN 2026

This year's Model United Nations (MUN) conference marked another successful turnout for Halcyon, welcoming a significant number of students across seven different schools.

Organising a conference of this scale during an examination period presented several challenges, most notably in securing participation from external schools. Alongside the Halcyon MUN team, I was determined to host the highest-quality MUN conference in the school’s history. Outreach to schools took several months, requiring persistent follow-up before confirmations began to arrive. Alongside communications, we placed a heavy emphasis on event logistics, professional presentation, visual materials, and ensuring an elevated delegate experience. The event’s planning process taught me time management, professional communication, and the resilience required to keep a large project on track despite various setbacks.

Over the two-day event, students represented assigned countries and were tasked with arguing for their nation's interests, regardless of their own political views. This proved to be one of the most rewarding and educational aspects of the experience. Delegates constructed logical arguments, proposed and argued against amendments, and negotiated with other delegates to pass resolutions. The Human Rights Council was a standout committee, producing sustained debate that balanced genuine solemnity with the vibrant energy of the student delegates.

By the event’s close, students gained a stronger understanding of international diplomacy and the importance of finding a middle ground. These insights were shared by Argentine Ambassador, Mariana Plaza, and founder of Libya-Analysis LLC and senior analyst at the NATO Defense College Foundation, Jason Pack. The ability to advocate on behalf of your country while remaining open to amendment is a critical skill that MUN helps to develop.

This year's conference demonstrated the success that a fully student-led board of directors can achieve when we work together and it sets a strong precedent for future Halcyon MUNs. To learn more about Halcyon MUN, visit our website!
